# FAQ **What is it?** A keyword-intelligence tool for Hacker News: trends over time, trending keywords, and searchable stories and comments. **Is it free?** Yes. No account and no API key. **Where does the data come from?** The public HN Search API by Algolia. See [data sources](https://hackernewstrend.xyz/ai/data.md). **Is it affiliated with Hacker News?** No. It is not affiliated with Hacker News, Y Combinator or Algolia. **How far back does it go?** All of Hacker News history, from 2007, in the topics-over-time chart. Search results cover the last 7 or 30 days. **Why do some figures say "50 latest"?** They are computed from the 50 most recent matches, not all of Hacker News. See [metrics](https://hackernewstrend.xyz/ai/metrics.md). **Are counts exact?** Story and bucket counts are real totals from Algolia's `nbHits` with exact-word matching. Today's bucket is partial. **Can I share a view?** Yes. Every option lives in the URL. See [URLs](https://hackernewstrend.xyz/ai/urls.md). **Does it store anything about me?** No database and no accounts. Results are cached in server memory for 10 minutes. **Can I run it myself?** Yes, see https://github.com/twoliness/hn-search-lab. It needs Ruby 3.2+, no database and no keys.
